Today, we are going to take a “Posture of Peace” by becoming fully aware of our real lives in Christ.

Posture is a short, audible fist bump to remind you, God is with you in everything. Together, we’re going to be emboldened to take a daily Posture of perfect peace.

Okay, so I’m really excited today because I’m gonna be starting this episode by reading a chunk of Scripture, and of like always is just pure treasure. So I would just encourage you if you’re able, sit back, relax, close your eyes, if you’re able, don’t please close your eyes if you’re driving and listening to this, but just relax and soak in this treasure of Scripture as I read Romans 6:1-11 over you.

“What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may have bound by no means? How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know or are you not aware of the fact the truth that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death. We were buried therefore with Him by baptism into death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with Him in a death like His, we shall certainly be united with Him in a resurrection like His. We know we are aware of this, that our old self was crucified with Him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin. Now, if we have died with Christ, we believe we will also live with Him. We know, we are aware that Christ being raised from the dead will never die again. Death no longer has dominion over Him. For the death He died, He died to sin once for all, but the life He lives, He lives to God. So you, yes, you must also consider yourselves dead to sin, and alive to God in Christ Jesus.”

I told you it was treasure. I could leave it right there, I should just end the episode right now. We’ve been talking this week about awareness, tuning in to that real life that we have in Christ. And according to Scripture, there is a you who died, your old self, your sinful nature was crucified with Christ. And there is a you who is now alive to God in Christ, you are a new creation who has been raised with Christ. This is who you are. So the question that I would love for you to consider today is are you aware of who you are, or are you only aware of who you used to be? Because dead is dead. And God’s intention for you is to turn your back and forget that older you, and walk only in newness of life, the newness of life that Romans 6:4 talks about.

So when a thought comes today, ask which self is talking? Does this thought sound like it came from my new self, the new creation I am in Christ, my real life, the alive me, or is this thought from my old dead self? If it’s from the new you, the new creation you are in Christ, it will resonate with hope and goodness and joy and peace and a confidence in who God is for you. The old self always sounds negative, and doubtful and fearful and uncertain and full of shame. Not every thought you have today has equal value. Some thoughts you might have today have no value at all. The old you has nothing of value to say. So don’t give it any mind space today. Because new is well new.

You know we can be tempted to continue to go back and forth to that old self, those old patterns and those old mindsets, not because they have value, but just because they are familiar. It’s just what we know. It’s just what we’ve been aware of. But this back and forth, this going between old self thoughts and new self thoughts that makes us double minded, which James tells us makes us unstable in all of our ways, because it keeps us at war within ourselves. So if you’re struggling with that, no problem. It’s just time to form some new habits, and embrace your new normal. And you do that, not by trying to kill what is already dead, because it’s dead, it can’t be more dead than it already is. You form those new habits by becoming fully aware of Christ in you.

So moving forward in your day to day and in the coming days ahead, be focused only on exploring the new, true, real you in Jesus, give your life and Christ your full awareness. Do not try to resurrect what Jesus buried, just so you can try to die to self. Because if you could die to self, by yourself, by your own efforts, Jesus would not have had to come. But He had to come, because it was only Jesus, who could kill your old dead self once for all. The old us dead, so don’t give it another thought. Those familiar ways of thinking and seeing and speaking, they will all be replaced, not as you dwell on them, but as you keep moving forward and the newness of life by remaining fully aware of the life of Christ in you.

The promise of perfect peace is found in Isaiah 26:3. In Hebrew, it is “shalom, shalom”, meaning complete wholeness. Nothing missing, nothing broken. This is who you are in Jesus. Because of Jesus, you are a living testimony of Jesus’s ultimate win. With every step you take today you’re putting Jesus’s victory on display and satan’s defeat on replay.
